Happy New Year, Wednesday Walk and a Monkey on my back

Happy New Year! One of my goals for this year is to get outside more. I took a lovely walk on Wednesday and wanted to share it with you. This is the trail right behind my house. It's about a 20 minute walk. Even though my front yard looks like a typical suburban neighborhood, I am blessed to have a wilderness for my backyard.

Gus and Daisy like to lead the way along the canal.

Walking on the edge of the canyon.

This is the North Fork American River. The river looks pretty low Wednesday. It is much higher today!

Back home. The dogs are behind me now, they don't want to be back home already.

The weather took a turn for the worse on Friday. We were hit with a huge rainstorm with winds up to 80 mph. We have been cleaning up the yard ever since. Most of our side fences blew down (the back is wire and held up well) and we had lots of trash, branches and mud everywhere. We were lucky, though. Many of our neigbors lost trees and still don't have their power back.

Staying home watching the storm gave me lots of knitting time. I cast on Cookie A.'s Monkey for the January Sockdown in the Sock Knitters Anonymous Ravelry Group. Each month the challenge is to knit socks from a chosen designer or a Mystery Sock Pattern posted to the group. I thought I was probably the last knitter on earth that hadn't knit this pattern yet, but many in the group are knitting Monkeys. The pattern is easy and fun. I'm using my hand-dyed in the Maui colorway.

I hope 2008 brings you lots of happiness, good health, peace, and knitting!

Ha, you aren't the last one. I haven't knit the Monkey's yet. I plan to eventually. Right now it's a sweater for my Kim, and it's really similar if not the same as the monkey pattern, according to my lyso!

Happy New Year!

Btw, I know I won't be able to get away for a day trip to Sac. :( I plan to get to Purlesence and maybe the outlet mall in Gilroy. That's it.
